Grab your backpack, trusty map, and let’s go! The wildly popular Nickelodeon cartoon series, Dora the Explorer, is headed to the big screen in a new live-action adventure. Very few details have been released on the upcoming flick, but Michael Bay, known for his high action and explosion filled movies, (think Transformers, Pearl Harbor, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) has signed on as a producer.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the plot of the new movie revolves around Dora, now a teenager, and her cousin Diego, as she moves to the big city to live with him. No official release date has been set, but it is rumored for completion sometime in 2019. Backed by Paramount Pictures with a script written by Nick Stoller, the writer behind The Muppets, the concept for the new film has actually been bounced around since 2015.
The successful original series ran on the kids network from 2000-2014 with almost 200 episodes. The cartoon, which saw worldwide success, produced a spinoff series, stage production, and popular merchandising.
